Welcome EL Conference master class participants!
I created this blog to use as part of a Language Arts class for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade ELLs at a wide range of proficiency levels.
If you scroll down you will see posts that served a variety of purposes:
- To be criminally insane or not to be - these links helped 9th graders complete an independent note-taking activity to prepare for writing an essay on whether Hamlet was criminally insane. The links in Spanish were for a recently arrived student with strong academic language skills in Spanish.
- Thou Shalt Talk Like Shakespeare - this post was the follow up to a lesson on Shakespearean vocabulary and syntax. Students used the comments to practice using what they had learned to communicate with each other.
- Colonial Latin America Links for Victor - These links for a newly arrived student to use in his World History class. He has the blog bookmarked on his phone so he could access the texts in class if he needed to (with teacher permission of course!)
- Shakespeare Links - These links were part of an introductory lesson on Shakespeare. Some students had watched the brain pop video in my class the year before, but they all played the online game to review their knowledge about Elizabethan culture. The link to the summary of Hamlet was for a newly arrived student to read so he could preview the play in his native language.
- Background Information Activities Day One and Day Two - Students completed these activities with a substitute while I was out of the building for a conference. They were building background knowledge on the events in two different dystopic novels. As you can see in the comments, students sometimes got off topic, but I was able to monitor and respond to their comments from out of town.
